Color printing has lately become very famous due to the popularity of many good quality printers and the usage of the printer in daily life has also increased compared to how printers were used say five years ago. When you run out of ink, you would buy a new ink cartridge or even when you buy a new color printer, you will at some time need a new color ink cartridge.

Printing with ink is almost like writing with a pen on paper. A printer ink cartridge contains liquid ink and the printer uses pressure to apply the ink to the paper.
Ink cartridges disperse ink through holes in the cartridge. Ink cartridges have one or more divided ink wells. Some companies place electronic contacts and a chip that communicates with the printer. The ink is sometimes oil based, but most of the time it is water-based.

Unlike the black ink cartridge, a colored ink cartridge can be found in basically two different forms. This depends on the type of printer and the printing head. The first type of cartridge is the individual one. This type of cartridge is very famous nowadays and can be found in many new printers, such as those from Epson and Canon. Individual here means one cartridge would only contain one single color and when you are buying, you would have to buy four to five different cartridges for several different colors. Most of the times, they are sold in one single package, so you would not have the hassle of looking for each one separately and you fix them one by one to the designated printing head in the printer.

Many people prefer inkjets because the cost is reasonable. Many also like the quality of the printed material, the amount of documents and images that can be printed before the ink runs out and the efficiency of inkjets. They like the quality of color images when they are printed and one page printed with an ink cartridge can cost about 5 to 10 cents and is also very user-friendly. An ink cartridge is replaceable and ink jet cartridges are compact products that can usually fit in the palm of your hand.

Single Three-Color Cartridges: This type of cartridge is one of the oldest known forms. In fact all the old inkjet printers use this type of cartridge and several new ones do as well. What the difference here from the individual one is that that there would only be one single color ink cartridge, which would be the size of three or four individual ones combined. Inside the single sealed unit, there would be three sections divided with three different colors filled in respectively. The three colors would normally be yellow, red and green, or sometimes there would also be some other combinations.
